In November of 2008, Dave and Jess Ray traveled to the remote village of Kulu in southern Sudan. There they experienced the life and vibrancy of a people who give out of poverty, laugh in the midst of incredible hardship, and survive against seemingly insurmountable odds. The impact on Dave and Jess was deep and lasting, leaving them with a desire to use their music to serve the people of southern Sudan. It was that desire that would become the genesis for Music for the Radio.
Music for the Radio is a partnership with Aid Sudan's Radio Station Project, which broadcasts the Gospel, health information, and community development teaching in the tribal languages of southern Sudan. The broadcast is received via a solar-powered hand-held radio that is fix-tuned to the Aid Sudan signal. Each radio costs just $20 to manufacture and distribute and can reach 10-15 people.
Currently over 1.3 million Sudanese live in the broadcast area of the Aid Sudan network, and thousands of radios are already reaching tens of thousands of people. But thousands more are needed. At this historic time, with South Sudan poised to become the world's newest nation, this unique project has the potential to impact South Sudan in a massive way. But we need your help.
When you purchase the Music for the Radio EP, everything we receive goes toward the purchase of additional hand-held radios. And there's more! When you donate more than $1 we give you a free gift of music from other artists who also care about the people of South Sudan, people like Matt Brouwer, Nathan Tasker, Michael Bleecker, Justin Unger, Lizi Bailey, and Andrew Greer.
Remember, just $20 purchases a radio that can impact a family, or a village, or even an entire nation. That's the power of the Gospel!
